My name is Charlie Roberts, officially #8 on the ballot as Charles R Roberts, and I have called Middletown, RI home with my family since August 2008.

I was born and raised in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State, and I am a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) with a B.S. in Environmental Management. I am currently a Vice President of Project Management with a nationwide commercial solar company.

I have been active in Town and around Aquidneck Island, volunteering my time as supporter and coach with Middletown Little League, Middletown Youth Soccer, Gaudet Boys Soccer, St. Joseph’s CYO Basketball, St. Joseph’s past Lector and Eucharistic Minister.

I have followed town politics since moving here in 2008, mainly through the local newspapers and hard to admit, but you could regularly catch me watching Public Access Middletown Town Council meetings on my couch. For most of this time I was a silent observer, but I was always drawn to get involved deeper.

My first call was an ad for a re-start of the Middletown Public Schools Building Committee. They were looking for residents with construction, design, and project management experience to make up the citizens’ portion of the committee. I applied, they approved me, and I co-chaired until our successful ballot initiative in 2023.

During this time, I began to closely follow the Town Center project, and smaller affordable housing projects that were being proposed in neighborhoods. One such project was across the street, and it was suddenly becoming much bigger than the lot and traffic could support. I asked, why are we not making Town Center developer build more affordable housing? I felt I was ignored, so I got involved.

It motivated me, and I became Chair of the Affordable Housing Committee. Unanimously, our committee made a formal recommendation to the Town Council to make the developer increase affordable units to 25%. We were ignored, which motivated me to run for Town Council in 2024.

After a successful run, I was sworn into office in December of 2024, and it has been an honor of a lifetime. I just want two (2) more years, to finish the work I have started. I do not want to be a career politician; I just want to save our Town and keep our residents in their homes. They are the heart and soul of Middletown. I work for them.
