Larry S. Roberts grew up in Lexington, graduating from Henry Clay High School in 1961 and the University of Kentucky in 1966. At U.K., he lettered on the freshman and varsity tennis teams, was a member of the U.K. marching band and was a varsity cheerleader. He received his J.D. degree from the University of Kentucky, College of Law in 1969.
From 1969 to 1972, he was a public defender with Fayette County Legal Aid. He was selected to become the first full-time prosecutor in Kentucky and served as Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney from 1972-77. He was appointed Commonwealth’s Attorney in 1977 and served until 1984. In 1985, he entered private practice where he was a partner in the firm of Fowler, Measle & Bell until 1989. In 1989, he formed the firm of Roberts & Smith and was there until becoming County Attorney.
He has a Peer Review Rating of AV with Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Roberts has served as an adjunct professor at the U.K. College of Law and has been an active participant in the Fayette County School’s EBCE Program for over twenty years. He was sworn in as Fayette County Attorney on August 15, 2006, and was elected to this position on November 7, 2006 for a four-year term.
